Cold Sore Healing Lip Salve
- 2 fl oz of sweet almond oil
- 1/2 tsp dried comfrey leaves
- 1 tsp calendula flowers
- 1/2 tsp dried st john’s wort
- 1/2 tsp dried lemon balm
- 8 oz of beeswax pellets
- 5 drops peppermint essential oil
- 2 drops tea tree
How To Prepare The Cold Sore Healing Lip Salve
First you need to infuse the herbs in the almond oil. The quickest way is to put the herbs in the oil and heat it slowly using a double boiler. About 3 hours (on LOW) should do it. The oil will be properly green and smelling ‘herby’ when it is ready. Alternatively you can bosh the oil and herbs into a sterile, sealed jar and leave for a month, shaking it daily. This method is good because you can leave the oil in the light of the moon to charge it. Sunlight will make it cloudy however so avoid that.
Strain the oil through a muslin, giving it time to drip through. At the end you can give it a quick squeeze to get the last drops out, then discard the herbs.
Next heat the infused oil gently, in the double boiler, with the added beeswax. Once the wax has completely melted (don’t rush this bit) you can add the essential oils, before transferring the mixture to a clean and sterile jar.
This ratio of wax to oil gives you a reasonably hard salve, but you’ll be able to push your finger in to it, and it melts on contact with your lips.
